Tragic Death of Former NFL Quarterback

It is tragic when anyone loses their life. My heart not only goes out to the family and friends of Steve McNair but to the family and friends of the female victim as well.

One of the biggest stories of the weekend was the untimely death of former NFL quarterback and Alcorn State University standout Steve McNair. Now authorities have ruled his death a homicide, though police said Sunday they have not classified the death of the woman who was actually involved in a romantic relationship with him. Police found 36-year old McNair and 20-year olfd Sahel Kazemi fatally shot in his condo in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, Saturday afternoon. McNair was shot twice in the head and twice in the chest, while Kazemi was shot once in the head. Autopsies were performed on them both. Now McNair, married and a father of four, had reportedly been dating Kazemi over the past several months. Several pictures of the two have surfaced on the Internet parasaling on some type of vacation. Neighbors of Kazemi say they saw McNair at her apartment so often, that they thought he actually lived there. It was reported that he met the 20-year old as she worked at Dave and Buster’s. When their bodies were found Saturday morning, police reported that the two had been dead for a period of hours prior to the bodies being discovered. A friend discovered the bodies but called another friend to the apartment, who then called the police.

Witnesses told police that McNair had been to two bars late Friday into early Saturday. Neighbors said a Cadillac Escalade driven by Kazemi - registered to both her and McNair - was already in the condo parking lot when McNair arrived at about 1:30 a.m, presuming she was already there when he arrived. The bodies were found two days after Kazemi was pulled over in the Escalade and charged with a DUI. McNair was in the car at the time. Kazemi's sister, Sepide Kazemi, said she suspected her sister was the other fatality when she heard on the news Saturday afternoon that McNair and someone else had been found dead. She said her family had a feeling it was her because she would be the only young woman with him at that time, as far they knew. Her sister has spoken out very loudly that McNair was getting a divorce from his wife and they were separated, giving reason as to why he was spending so much time with her sister.



Nashville police reported that the gun found at the murder scene was purchased by his apparent girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, just two days before the shooting. Investigators believe Kazemi purchased the pistol from a private vendor, hours after she was busted for drunk driving with McNair in her SUV on Thursday night.

McNair spent 13 seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Tennessee Titans. I actually remember being quite young watching him play at Alcorn State University.

A public memorial service will be held Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Reeves Funeral Home in Mount Olive, Mississippi. His funeral will be held Saturday in Hattiesburg, but the family has not yet finalized the arrangements. Sources say he will be buried in Mount Olive, Mississippi.
